Learning Resources

Now that you are aware of the available communication methods in the TAFE Virtual Campus it is time to see how to work with the learning materials and other resources that make up your online course.

The type of materials and resources that are available to you will depend on what your teacher has selected as appropriate for your unit/module. Each unit/module that you are enrolled in may include different types of learning resources. The TAFE Virtual Campus provides a variety of learning resources that your teacher may have made available to you.

These include:

  • A Glossary
  • Web Pages
  • Links to other Internet sites
  • References to other information
  • Access to audio, video and CD-ROM based resources

You may also have a copy of the unit/module syllabus that outlines what you will achieve as you work through your online course. Instructions on how to complete the unit/module may also be included.

The course content iconpresents you with the learning material that have been set up in much the same way as you would access information about your course from a set of course notes or an instruction manual.

Glossary: You can look up the meaning of words that are used in the course notes. In some courses you may be able to click on a word in the notes that is blue and underlined and it will bring up the meaning of the word from the Glossary.

Search: The Search tool allows you to look for a particular word or phrase somewhere in your course. You can select where in the course you wish to look for the word.

Index: This provides a list of key words and the pages on which they appear.

My Notes: The My Notes tool allows you to make your own notes about what you are studying on each page. You can add the new notes as well as edit or delete notes that you have already taken. You can use the Compile tool to select the notes associated with each of the content pages so they can be downloaded as a single text file to your computer so you can print your notes.

Bookmark: The Bookmark allows you to save the important pages in the course notes that you may wish to visit again.

References: The References tool provides you with details of news articles, books, journals or web sites that you should refer to gain more information about the topic on the content page.

Links: The links tool has links to web sites that will provide you with support for the topics you are studying. Your teacher has set up these links for you. All you need to do is click on the link to go to that web site.

Communication Tools

The communication tools are not pictured in the Button Bar above but can be accessed from the Button Bar if your teacher has placed them there.

When you access the Bulletin Board from the Button Bar, the `subject title' of the message you post is taken from the title of the page you are on. It is automatically posted into the Notes forum. This allows you to share your ideas with other people about specific page content.
